The complete guide to Meta ads for Shopify stores
To run Meta ads for a Shopify store, connect Shopify to Meta through the Facebook and Instagram app, set up the pixel and Conversions API, work out your break-even ROAS, then test several creatives with a modest daily budget. Keep what's profitable, cut what isn't, and add retargeting once you have regular traffic.

- Know your break-even ROAS before spending.
- Creative is the biggest lever: test several hooks and formats.
- Keep campaign structure simple while you learn.
- Scale budgets gradually on proven ads.
Set up tracking
Install Shopify's Facebook and Instagram app to connect your catalogue, pixel and Conversions API. Check that purchases in Meta Events Manager roughly match Shopify orders. Set up the Conversions API.
Know your numbers
Work out your margin after product cost, shipping and fees, then your break-even ROAS. Anything above that is profit. Use the ROAS calculator.
Structure campaigns simply
Start with one sales campaign for new customers and broad targeting, and let Meta's delivery find buyers. Add a retargeting campaign later. See campaign structures.
Creative that sells
Test several creatives with different hooks: the problem your product solves, a demonstration, customer reviews, or a founder story. Short videos and user-generated content often outperform polished ads. Create scroll-stopping creatives and use UGC.
Budgets and testing
Give each test enough budget and time to show results, usually several days. Judge ads on cost per purchase and ROAS, not clicks. See how long to run a test.
Retargeting
Show ads to people who viewed products or added to basket but didn't buy. Dynamic product ads from your catalogue work well. Read the retargeting guide.
Scaling
Increase budgets gradually on profitable ads, and keep testing new creative because ads tire over time. See how to scale.
