How to set up Shopify Markets for UK and EU customers

Shopify Markets lets you sell to different countries from one store, with local currencies, prices, languages and domains. For a UK brand selling to Europe, create an EU market, turn on local currencies, set price rounding, add translations and set up duties and taxes before testing orders from each country.

Quick summary

  • Your home market is the UK; add others as separate markets.
  • Local currencies need Shopify Payments.
  • Set shipping, taxes and duties per market.

Create your markets

  1. Go to Settings, then Markets.
  2. Your primary market is the United Kingdom.
  3. Add a market for the EU, or individual countries you sell to most.
  4. Turn on local currencies for each market.

Prices and rounding

Choose automatic exchange rates or fixed prices per market. Price rounding (for example to .00 or .95) keeps prices looking natural in each currency.

Languages and domains

Add translations with Shopify's Translate & Adapt app, and choose subfolders (such as /fr) or separate domains. Shopify adds hreflang tags automatically. See international SEO.

Taxes, duties and shipping

Set up EU VAT and IOSS, show duties at checkout where available, and create shipping rates for each market. See UK and EU taxes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate store for the EU?

Usually not. Markets handles most needs in one store.

Can I show different products per market?
