Shopify keyword research: a step-by-step guide
Shopify keyword research means finding the words UK customers type when looking for your products, then matching one main keyword to each page. Start from customer language, check demand and competition with a keyword tool and Google's own suggestions, and map keywords to collections, products and guides.

Quick summary
- Start with how customers describe your products.
- Map one main keyword per page.
- Collections get broad terms; products get specific ones.
1. List seed terms
Write down how customers describe your products, including materials, uses and occasions. Check your own site search and customer emails.
2. Expand and check demand
Use Google's autocomplete, 'People also ask', Search Console and a keyword tool to find variations and rough search volumes.
3. Judge competition
Search each term and look at who ranks. If results are dominated by large retailers, target more specific phrases.
4. Map to pages
Give each page one main keyword: broad terms to collections, specific terms to products, questions to guides and answers. Avoid two pages targeting the same term.
