How to set up shipping rates and zones on Shopify

To set up shipping on Shopify, go to Settings, then Shipping and delivery, create shipping zones for the UK and any other countries, and add rates by weight or order price. Add a free shipping rate over a set basket value, and use shipping profiles if some products need different rates.

Quick summary

  • Zones are where you ship; rates are what you charge.
  • Price-based rates are simplest; weight-based is more accurate.
  • Use profiles for bulky or special products.

Create zones

  1. Go to Settings, then Shipping and delivery.
  2. Edit the general shipping profile.
  3. Create a UK zone and zones for other countries.
  4. Add rates to each zone.

Choose rate types

  • Flat rates, such as £3.95 standard
  • Weight-based rates for varied products
  • Price-based rates, such as free over £50
  • Carrier-calculated rates on eligible plans

Shipping profiles

Create separate profiles for items like furniture or fragile products that need different rates.

Highlands, islands and Northern Ireland

Some couriers charge more for remote postcodes. Set separate rates where needed. See remote area shipping.
